What kind of wood is this?

Hi all,
could anyone tell me what kind of wood this is? its a small scrap of veneer i've had a while, dont remember where i got it.

Notoriously difficult to give a definitive answer just going by a photo. At a guess it looks similar to a mahogany or mahogany type wood, figured or quilted.

If it was rare we'd all be oooing and aaahing. But it's fairly common, so no one gives a hoot.
