I'm almost afraid to confess: in my teenage years I spent some time "purty-picking" after something similar to one of those six-armed flails had unearthed the spuds for us (cheap) labourers to hand harvest...we thought at the time it was SO much quicker than the hand-digging we had all done for our families on their plots of vegetables...

You DIDN'T want to get in the way of a big Arran Victor though; it had all the force of a sledgehammer at Mach Two coming out of the earth and flying transversely to the tractors passage. Ah, and all for £2 a day...good money!
