Hello all,

After a visit to my lunchtime pub I spied a pile of wonderful spalted beech ready to go on the open fire....
The figguring looks wonderful. :)
I would like your help on the following:
Is it OK to turn while wet (live fungus) or is it better to leave to dry out?
Thanks in advance for you advice.

Richard.

the fungus is a health hazard to us turners wet or dry- i turn all my spalted beech wet as i dont want the spalting top go too far and the wood be too soft.
i use a microclean -a trend airshield and two camvac dust extractors, wood dust is very dangerous spalted wood dust is very very dangerous.

That said, it's well worth the effort and can produce some wonderful pieces, just need to take the usual sensible precautions and manage he dust.

Cheers, Paul :D

Microwave kills and stops the spores

Time in the microwave depends on size and moisture content

WARNING

DO NOT USE the one from the kitchen !!!!
