Hi All,
I bought a new Jet Mini lathe (1014) at the Harrogate Show and am looking for ideas for a knock-down bench for it to take to demos. Does anyone have any ideas/pictures/links please?

I have used a cheap Workmate-type bench but being pretty tall it's not really very suitable to be honest and I want a better solution. I'd rather build my own than to buy a ready-made solution.

Many thanks
Jon

Hi Chipmunk,
you could perhaps try bolt-together angle iron such as Dexion until you sort out a more permanent solution. Lathe bolted to solid plank of wood, 2 sides also wood - perhaps with base wider than top. So you get 3 rigid sections with Dexion on them for connecting up. Then link them all together including front and back with Dexion.

You can tell I was really into Meccano as a child!!

Might work, although it may not look very elegant. But then, Workmates aren't so elegant either.

I know that problem well, for me it also needs to collapse so that it doesnt take up too much room for transporting. I had an idea which should work after seeing a friend using a mitre saw on a portable stand like this http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ax ... rod376268/

They are a bit expensive to buy but I should be able to make one myself, then with the lathe bolted to the top and wheels it should be easy to transport and set up etc.

Hi again,
here's a link to a site showing a possible solution:-

http://www.woodisfun.ca/index.php?optio ... Itemid=176

It's part of a website called Wood is Fun by John Williams. He claims the stand can be erected in one minute.

If the link doesn't work (it worked when I tested it just now) then to to the Wood is Fun site, click the Tutorials tab, then the Equipment tab.

Have you thought about buying to proper jet stand that comes apart quite easy at least you would keep the stability you require and the height will be right
