I've just been doing a basic refurb on a Wadkin BAOS 12in Planer thicknesser. The rise and fall of the bed relies on two worm type gears being turned by the rise and fall handle.. I had the whole mechanism out to clean and re grease but these worm gears didn't have any grease on them. should they be left dry or should they be greased or oiled? I notice the action of these gears tends to push anything out of them ie. they wipe themselves clean. Photo from under machine, you can't see the gears and they are difficult to access so I assume they haven't been touched since the machine was new. also should the rise and fall main pillar be greased or oiled?

White grease, silicone spray or anything that’s not sticky / wet that attracts saw dust.
