I have just restored my old tenon saw. I have put boiled linseed on the handle and wanted to maybe do it over again with shellac. Is it recommended?

Also, where can I get a tin or bottle of shellac that will be suitable for this and other restoration projects?

Kind Regards… Rob

Both shellac and BLO feel nice in the hand - it pick whichever feels best to you.

I strongly recommend buying blonde shellac flakes (eBay) and some meths. Make up small quantities in a lidded jar as you need it. Flakes keep for years, ready made can deteriorate in a few months and you don't know when your ready made was mixed. I find that freshly made dries harder too.

I prefer de-waxed shellac, and make my own from liberon flakes + isopropyl alcohol, followed by a good quality hardwax like peacock wax or alphie shine.
