Hi everyone,

Im a complete begginer and Ive been reading the forums for a while trying to research what lathe to buy for my budget and i was going to get an axminster AWVSL1000 but Ive found a viceroy lathe for £250, i think its the TDS 6. Its 240volt so runs off the mains. Would any of you be kind enough to let me know your thoughts on whether i should go for the viceroy or the axminster please? The main thing thats making me doubt getting the viceroy is getting the parts for it, would this be an issue?

Thanks in advance for any help:)

Whilst i'm not familar with the viceroy that you mention if its got everything you need to use it now then parts are not a problem
Any that you do need are available as standard parts Bearings belts electricals etc
The viceroys that I have in mind will be much better than the axminster
If you want a graduate I have one ( s7)

Ian

thanks for your replys guys, its much appreciated, wasnt sure whether people would reply with it being my fist post and all.

So taking into account what you guys have said ill deffo be going for something more oldschool then. What kind of price are you asking for the union graduate, Ian? and where abouts in sheffield are you?

Thanks,

Craig.

erm.. i believe id like it single phase, id like to turn things a meter long so not sure if thats a long bed, and id deffo like to have the option to do bowl turning aswell. Im guessing something like this would be out of my price range though.

Thanks,

Craig.
