Would using silicone spray on bare wood - cheap pine and mdf - help reduce water absorption?

I ask only as I can get cans of it really cheaply, and it's application is minutes instead of hours for oils.

or has anyone used thompsons water seal on wood?

Hi

I doubt it would be very durable or long lasting, if you're not bothered about a specific look then oil based house paint will do the job.

Regards Mick

It would also knacker any other finish put on afterwards- if that is the intention.

noo, it was just a lazy ass considered possibility, a fast fix, but I think maybe the longevity thing would be a problem.

I guess a trip to the local DIY miss-mixed paint shelf is required.
