Need to make a couple of single beds for spare room and have decided to go for a Trundle type. What has me scratching my head is the attachment of legs to raise the lower bed, single handed. This "Toronto" bed has the type of leg which appeals but, does the panel think an ordinary door type hinge on the end of the leg and a stop block glued to the bed side rail is strong enough or, is metalwork necessary?

You definitely don't want splayed legs pulling on short screws.

I think I would simply use some bolts, through the sides of the frame and then through holes central in the legs. About M12 should be ok and are easily found as coach bolts, which would be unobtrusive externally. Include some washers to stop the legs binding against the frame.
