Hi all

I remember someone posting about a piece of software that makes the transfer of data and software, including the registry settings, a simple process. Now, I can't find the post.

IIRC, you select the program and it then shows you all dll's, data and registry settings that need to be transferred.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a smooth transition? I have Laplink.

Cheers

Laplink? Strewth, that takes me back!

Have you looked at the File and Settings Transfer Wizard? It should allow you to do what you are suggesting - I've used it in the past for replacing office machines, but it's been a while so I don't recall any specifics I'm afraid. It's in your system tools list.

Not sure that the transfer you describe can actually be done as the regisitry is VERY different in Xp when compared to Win 98. I reckon a data move followed by full install on XP machine is probably in order.
