I took a break from making the train and turned a couple of pieces which now have to go in the bin.

The first is a piece of beech and is 5" tall by 4 1/2" across

The second is Sapele which is 7 1/4" across and stand 1 1/2" tall

OH well back to the train

The first one has three little dings in it 2 on the rim and one in the side, also the lip of the hole has a small split in it. All my fault I was buffing it and did not have a good grip on it and it went for flying lessons. #-o
The second one would not take a finish in the middle and has a faint patchy look to it when it is held to the light ](*,)

The texturing was done using the Robert Sorby texturing and spiralling tool and the skew chisel to make the lines.

Derek If the dings are just dents sand and put some hot water to lift the grain up as for the small split widen and make it a feature. Cheers Roger C
PS niece vase and dish
