Hi folks,
Something that's on my to-make list, hopefully next year, is a tongue drum. I've been doing some research, trying to put together a plan for how to make it, and what experiments I need to do, but there's something that is confusing me:
It looks like most people just build them as a simple butt-jointed box, looking something like Musical Standards | hardwoodmusic
But shouldn't wood movement cause cracking/bowing/... for such a drum? Are they just hoping that it's small enough that it will be OK? And if so, is it likely that for a padauk box say 40x20x15cm that it would in fact be OK?
By the way, if anyone happens to know of any good resources/forums for making tongue drums, that would be awesome. Most of what I've found is people in a similar position to me sharing what they've learnt from their first couple of drums!
Thanks
Wend
