This brace of Lanterns was mine the other day, in their box.
I was led to believe they were railway lanterns. I found out today they are Tin Mine wagon Lanterns.

But much messed around over time.

The bo was washed with warm Meths. The scraped clean. I used 120 grit to sand it down.
The wood has been nibbled by worm. Time in a Micro wave, a bag with CO2 and worm killer has made them not a pest.

About 50% d0ne on the tin plate, Just visable was stamp. I am guessing a Mine stamp. But it is to faint to see any true details.

Not original I do think. But not a un common mod.
The details I was sent concerning theses lanterns. Was in their day, the minors had to pay for everything. So if an item failed it was replaced. In this case, replaced with smaller wicks to use less oil.

Yes, I know the copper should be blacked.
The finish is may take on the original.
Lamp Black, Linseed oil and Bee's wax.
Does the job now, was well as then.

New furniture. The finish was French Polish, then coats of Lavende Bee's wa.
