Hello,

I was looking for some timber merchant near Stafford and found one in Manchester called Treestation (https://www.treestation.co.uk/)
Has anyone heard of them or used their services ? They seem to have some choice of timber (I'm looking for sycamore right now, but they have beech, poplar, cherry, yew, pear, etc.)

I would be happy to hear any feedback,

Cheers !
Chris.

looks an interesting place. if you do go or call them, I would be interested to know what stocks they have of pearwood.

so, i went to treestation in Manchester yesterday, and i mist say I have been very pleased with them.

First of all, they are lovely people. I exchanged couple of emails with them to book an appointment (compulsory) and then Ian arranged a visit. He walked me around and took the time to show me what they have available at the moment : sycamore, oak, holly (sh*t load of it  ), hornbeam, pear, birch (been looking for birch for the past year without success), beech, yew. All available from 1 to 3 inches.
They also have some blanks for turners, but dont remember what timber...

And all those are from locally harvested tree.

Then he showed me their logs that are airdrying at the moment : black poplar (=european poplar), oak, sycamore (among which ripple sycamore).

I fanally bought some sycamore and birch (2 inch thick) and a board of 2 3/4 inch oak (last picture below), all for 120 gbp incl VAT. I think it is a fairly good price.

Next time though I think I will stick to 1 inch boards. My bandsaw (axminster craft) is a bit struggling when resawing 6 inch deep material...

Planning to go again in 3 months to get some poplar (for a bigger and improved anarchist tool chest) and some ripple sycamore (coffee table and night stands).

In a nutshell, highly recommended !

I'm definitely going now you've said that, those prices seem really good as well! bloody hell that's good value.

really like the sound of it, unfortunatley I'm not seeing the images for some reason though?

it's very hard to find birch, my first chopping board was made out of it, excellent wood for kitchen utensils, I'll be like a kid in a sweetshop when I go :D
