Such a place doesn't exist!!

If you're after European oak the cheapest place is Scawton, including vat and delivery it is 960 a cube.

Yep that's what I'm doing research.... that's why I popped the question. I did say I'm setting up a business not that I've already set up a business.. :/
Thanks for the reply Neil, I will be getting my timber from China eventually as the prices are ridiculously cheap but minimum order is a 40' container which is a handsome sum.

Just thought I would ask you guys as you are all keen woodworkers and you never no.

Hi Sam,

Welcome. I get my stuff from Good Timber near Northampton which can't be too far from Derby.

Your best bet is to contact the main merchants like Timbmet, Brooks Bros, International timber, Lathams etc and negotiate the best price. If you buy whole packs of timber and get it delivered direct from the dock to your factory you will get the best price.

Timber prices fluctuate a lot as they are dependant on exchange rates so you will need to monitor the prices often.

A volume rate for timber will not tell you the overall material cost since waste percentages can vary widely depending on grading, size spec and timber species.
