Attached are photo's of the 2nd backsaw I recently finished.

The handle wood is Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle.

The tooth line is 12 inches long and has been sharpened 14 tpi.

Regards; Stewie.

First off , bloody beautiful handle Swagman! Second off , love the plate , wish that I could make those. Query, what is the tiger myrtle like to work with? It seems to me it would be a fabulous material for my marking gauge project (with some nice bits of brass naturally). How is it for wear on slidey bits and such, does it mar badly?

Schön! Very beautiful! I like the shape of flames at the hornes. Are you selling saws now?

Cheers

Hi lanemaux. Tiger Myrtle is a wonderful timber to work with but I doubt it would be a suitable hardwood long term to use as a base wood for a marking gauge.

Wax and lightly rub any piece of wood against another piece for a couple of hours. That's as much wear as an average gauge would get in it's lifetime. You could make a balsa wood gauge with enough brass inlays.

Beautiful saw!!! in case you didn't know, the little yellow thumbs up in the bottom right corner is a thanks. ( this is not a criticism in any way - saves time)
Phil.

Now that I know I will keep the thumbs up option in mind . Appreciate the advise.

Regards; Stewie.

Thank you both Swagman and Phil for your responses. I have always been attracted to lovely bits of grain and contrast (as well as most shiny things). Now my problem will be to source some as my part of Canada judges hardwood by how well it burns! bit of an exageration that , not near enough though. Probably need to source through the net then , no hurry as I have a great stock of the famous round to-its yet to sort out. Thanks again.
