A couple of bits of scrap oak I'd used ammonia on- the smaller shaped piece was in for a day, the larger rectangular bits for two days. The ammonia was only household <9.5% stuff, so not industrial. I was messing about shaving little bits off the edge and realised the coloration was deeper than I thought - the piece of oak is stone hard. The deeper coloration is the exposed surface, I didn't turn it over at any stage. Quite impressed.
