Plenty of suitable timbers out there, plenty of highly figured timbers out there. For them to just happen on a tree that 'apparently' is perfect tone is probably a load of fanciful nonsense.
But make up a good story, and some mug will shell out the cash thinking its one in a million.
 
luthiery is full of nonsense I'm discovering, one of the ones that makes me laugh out loud is 'swamp ash' it's literally american white ash that supposedly has grown in a bog, and lighter weight, surely they just find light weight pieces and sell it for more money? also moon spruce? does it really grow under moonlight? who invented these phrases? cheers.
