Some eBay sellers are not the brightest...is it all still there?

I once had a Type 11 No 5.5 delivered in nothing but a jiffy bag. The thing had survived two World Wars and probably dozens of owners to be trashed mercilessly at the hands of an idiot.

Yes, the saving grace is that because the loose cap was in position and the lot sandwiched twixt cardboard it had trapped it.
I think this had been tossed into a box thus jolting it outwards
Bit of weight behind it as it is the rarer large size :D

I'm surprised that RM handled and delivered it in that dangerous state. Maybe it only burst the packaging just before delivery to you. Bit of a shocker!

Suppose it could have been the letterbox drop
It happens to be razor sharp so could have got quite messy

Hi...don't quite get how the title of the thread relates to the content :? Isn't it 'the perils of posting planes in inadequate packaging' or the 'perils of on-line shopping'?

I think the OP was trying to upset us passionate supporters of 2-piece cap-irons

I must admit, the deflectors do tend to go MIA, and not just thanks to Royal Mail. I've been lucky, the only Stay-Set I bought that was missing a part, was missing the main part of the cap-iron - the deflector was still there! And the seller contacted me about a month later to say he'd found it  Needless to say, I gave that guy VERY good feedback (the plane might have sold for double what I paid, had it been there at the time of the auction).

Cheers, Vann.
