Someone on here has often advised looking at existing furniture and how it is built, and why. Good advice.

I merely mentioned screwing into endgrain to help a solid brass wedge (as proposed by the OP) maintain purchase instead of just relying on epoxy which will not hold as well as if the wedge were wood. Granted it's not ideal, but then I'm guessing he's not making an hierloom either.
