Hi all. Attached are photo's of another recent backsaw I completed. The handle is made from Queensland Maple. A superb timber to work with.http://www.afttimbers.com/maple%20QLD.htm

Hello again Stewie.

Another clean beauty from your stable I see!

The obvious question for me is about the thickness of the rear.

Is there an ergonomic reason for the enlarged rear part?

To me...it looks out of scale with the sleekness of the rest.

The delicate colouration and figuring in the maple is outstanding.

Bravo again my friend! =D>

Lovely Stewie.

I was going to ask (before I read the link) if you had stained it. Seems like Queensland Maple is dark naturally. Which leads me to ask is it a Maple (an Acer) or is it just called Maple and actually some kind of marsupial? :)

Hi Jim. To achieve good directional control of the saw blade a light pressure across the grip by the controlling hand is most desirable. To make this possible the shaping to the back of the grip needs to conform as close as possible to that shape formed by the inside hand as it takes hold of the saw handle grip. The pronounced hump you mentioned forms part of that critical shaping.

The Qld. Maple is a magnificent wood to work with. I was able to purchase a full slab of it. 2.4m x 600mm x 43mm recently. Very happy indeed.

Regards; Stewie.

Hi Richard. To apply a stain to this beautiful timber wood indeed be a crime.

Here is another backsaw I recently completed. Australian Jarrah. A much more difficult wood to shape and finish.
