It's not necessarily that John - maybe folk don't have a marking gauge spare?

I'm very pleased with the box you made me.

Now that has got you wondering who I am eh?

I figured you wanted a homemade special instead of bought commerical and some of those on that link are beautiful - but past what I can do in reasonable time with what I can do here probably.

I recon I could make this one no problems with the right toolshop, although I'd substitute the wear strip for some stainless scrap I have here - living in a shared house with a builder has great perks - I get a brilliant selection of oddments almost everyday all for free :)

But this is also a nice simple modification job too:

I was expecting a home made marking gauge not a commercial one.

In the past members and I have swapped our made items, and many are used daily by me.

Although I don't post a reply I follow your wip posts with interest.
I don't have your level of skill and patience and would be unable to make anything similar even though I would like one.
I certainly would be unable to make you a gauge of anything like good enough quality to swap for one of your superde boxes.

Are any of these any good to you, I won't be offended if you say no. Came in a job lot I bought from a chap who spent all his time at Lazarus Auctions ????

Don't think any are worth a box but I'm aiming to turn self employed before xmas and would prefer to swap for an asset, bit of hardwood maybe or best case scenario a spare mallett as mine is on its last legs.

If you need a better pic of any just ask.

Hi Mr-P/Devonwoody

How about this, I have a Marples cutting gauge that Devonwoody can have and a spare mallet to swap for that marking gauge with the wedge top picture far right.

Pete

Are you this is worth a mallet ??? It even has a chip in it.

Hang on it must be worth a fortune, why else did Mr Marten put his name on it FOUR times lol.

I'm very happy with this deal if you are but will need Devonwoody's approval first (first pick).

Me, I am happy with Petes offer of the Marples cutting gauge. So that swap is on.

Mr. P. I would gladly swap a lacewood box for the first mortice gauge with the drop down slider if you would accept.

Hi, Mr_P

Its a homemade Hawthorne and beech mallet used but still good, Hawthorne is a fantastic wood for mallets.

Pm me your address

Pm me your address.

Devonwoody

Thats a very generous offer but apologies I don't have any cash available for luxuries. How about a piece of lacewood or a cheap pack of stanley knife blades to cover my postage costs ?

Pete,
Will get it sent out tomorrow

Maybe it allready exists in the little used / read Wanted section. This thread has been accessed 521 times but items in the wanted section rarely reach triple figures.

Maybe it should be renamed ???

Mr.P. your mortice marking gaughe arrived this morning and it is a lovely quality tool, a real old Marples piece. Thanks again.

Devon and Pete,

Mallet and blades arrived safe and sound this morning, I'm over the moon thank you.

Hope you are both as pleased as I am but I doubt it.
