I had a request for a multi tool from a lady who does a lot of spinning. I make the different components normally but she wanted them as a multi tool that came apart. It consists of a niddy noddy, a nostepinne, a drop spindle with three separate whorls and a WPI gauge on the handle of the niddy noddy. Also wanted it in purple heart. Makes life interesting LOL

I dont know much about the use, but the finished tool looks great.

Love the texture on the whatsit.

Great wood to finish but I bet it was interesting to turn, how many splinters did you acquire?

Hope you kept notes, could be a regular item when it gets seen in the wild.

Actually it was OK Chas LOL. Most of it was done with a skew so just planed it down. People who order these tools usually specify specific sizes, weights etc so each one has to be made individually though I keep a stock of different styles on hand to show the variety.

Loz Thank you, the whatsit is a whorl, slides onto the spindle and gives it the weight and spinning momentum.

What's a "nostepinne"? SWMBO does some spinning, but it's not an item she has mentioned.

In the send image the nostepinne is the spindle at the top. It is used to wind the yarn into a ball as opposed to the niddy noddy which winds it into a skein.

niddy noddy?? nostepinne?? skein ?? have absolutley no clue what language you're speaking but the project looks great, whatever it is & used for lol

LOL I know the feeling Steven. I get asked to make things and have to research them, Marudai, kumihino discs, dozens of different types of spindles, bobbins and hooks. Not complaining though as they are usually repeat orders and get referrals.

Thanks - I think SWMBO just uses fingers for that. Like her niddy-noddy is the back of one of the kitchen chairs. Or my outstretched forearms if I don't get out of the way quick enough.... :D

Made the mistake of mentioning this to my wife, who is a keen spinner. Looks like this will be my month 13 challenge!

Now you know how to save your aching arms LOL. 9.5" centre spindle gives you a skein a yard long. Any old wood will do, just make sure it is really well sanded so there are no catches. Go for it.
