Whey-hey! Visited a group of "crafters" tonight, one county over. Less than a 30 minute drive for me, and met some really lovely people. Had some hands on tuition from an experienced turner who pointed out & helped correct some of my bad habits. Next week I've been asked to take along a piece of wood and an idea for something to make.
Can't wait.

I enjoyed myself so much I joined the group as a member. They'll never be rid of me.... bwahahahahaha.....

Where was this Taz??
Have been looking for a 'club' for some time but there aint none in South Lanarkshire - might have to go further afield (I do work in Bathgate)

The one I visited and subsequently joined is Wee County Crafters, based in Alva, Clackmannanshire. It might be a tad far away for you.
Have you looked at the Strathclyde Woodturners? Can't rightly remember off-hand, but I seem to recall Jim Pearson being around the Lenzie/Bishy/Kirky area.
In the Lothian area there's the Broxburn Woodcraft Club. I got talking to a couple of folk at the show last month, and from what I could make out (I'm a wee bit deaf) it sounds like an amazing place.
