Small planer thicknesser needed, but whats available ?.

Im on the look out for one.
Has to be small and there lies the problem.
Usually small equals cheap equals flimsy equals no attention to detail.

I will mostly be using it on hardwood, 200mm+ width plus about any depth thought he average seems about 160-170mm
Although ive not used this one of its ilk ive seen it in use on a number of sites over the years but would still like to know from you fellows given were mostly furniture makers and using hardwood.
Choice A -Record Power PT260

Pluses that stand out would be cast tables, the stand and a wheel kit.
Minuses would be the light weight @ 80kg. Likely to vibrate a lot in thicknessing and the double cutter block isnt going to help. A three would be preferable.

Pluses - bigger motor at 2000w that about 3hp :? Thats about it as far as i can see

Pluses - Nice stand and wheel kit
Minuses - 2 cutter block, and likely to vibrate. Also alloy tables again

Not a lot of choice or is there :? you tell me
A small as above, cast tables, 3 cutter block so what is there ? Kity? Record ? Axminster ? Jet ?

Well, Hegner scroll saws use ally tables, and they're not known (*) for warping. I suspect there are good and bad alloy tables, and I further suspect the same is true of cast iron. There are certainly some banana shaped hand planes made of cast iron.

Like my Metabo HC260, I believe the Record Power PT260 only has cast iron thicknessing tables. The large planing tables on the top are not cast iron. Actually that Record Power PT260 looks very expensive compared to the £510 Metabo HC260 when the only difference I can see is a set of wheels.

Don't forget the five year guarantee with Record. Also at promotional sales across the country, Record PT260 sells at something like £560, which isn't bad with their guarantee. Seriously thinking about this one myself. It's also an induction motor, which is quietier.
