I am new to wood turning and have just acquired the SIP 01936 lathe. Can anyone suggest a good chuck to buy and what size would be best for this particular midi lathe which has a 3/4 HP motor?

you wont go wrong by getting a robert sorby chuck, and accessories are very well made,

before i got the sorby chuck i got a cheap chuck after been reccomended it by a leading supplier, in fact he taled me out of a sorby and got me to have it, which i returned to them as the quality was very bad, it cost me a 200 mile round trip, i think they had more profit in the cheaper ones - buy cheap and you buy twice.

And I am very happy with my Axminster Evolution chuck plus O'Donndll jaws. Expensive at over £250 but I won't need to replace this chuck any time soon. Apart from that I only have metalworking chucks so I can't offer any realistic comparison.
