I happened to flick over to one of the sales channels on TV the other night and noticed they were selling a "Silent" vacuum cleaner. Not sure how new this concept is, but it certainly hasn't been in the affordable market as far as I know.

With the focus on Health and Safety these past few years, inparticular the trend for better dust collection, I wonder if this could mean the beginning of much quieter tools? I know the situation is completely different between the two cases in that the vacuum cleaners can be contained, as opposed to a spinning blade that needs to be exposed to contact the material to be cut, as well as the fact that most of the noise comes from the cutting action itself.
Still though, the noise pollution issue has to be tackled at some point.
