Hi all

A friend wants a piece painting in chalk paint and I believe that I need to seal the knots with shellac first, to stop the tannins bleeding through. Can anyone recommend a good make?

I've looked at prices for shellac and it seems pretty expensive, especially given that I may never use it again..So I have prompted far a very small tin of Colron knotting solution, so I'll see how that goes.

Last time I bought some shellac it was a small bag of shellac flakes and I got it from a local hardware shop, I think that knotting will do the same job for you.

As Scrimper said ... I'm fairly sure Knotting Solution is pretty much Shellac & Meths anyway ... and much cheaper.

The knotting solution seems to have worked just fine, although I was hoping for a less amber colour. I think that some makes of shellac are truly clear, although many of them are amber as well.
