I'm about to make a couple more axe handles, and yesteryday evening decided to sharpen up my bowsaw in readiness for cutting out a couple of profiles.
Having set it in my saw vice, I commenced filing. I was having a real struggle keeping track of "tooth towards/tooth away", despite being quite practised, so I stopped.
This morning, I got some stronger lenses, and just "had a look" without a file in my hand.
It turns out...
I'd used a scrap of bandsaw blade, and the set pattern included some teeth with no set, in amongst the "towards" and "away" teeth.
(EDIT; "Raker Set" apparently; http://www.ellissaw.com/bandsaw-blades/#tooth-types)
No wonder I was having trouble, given that I was expecting simple alternation. :-(
