This time it was the cherry's turn...

from this:

...to a fairly ordinary practice piece to try and get my bowl gouge technique sorted

14.5 cm diameter, finished with sealer and woodwax.

Then I fancied something a wee bit more fun, so took a piece from the equally manky elder log and came up with this:

8.5cm x 5cm high, partly hand-sanded, finished with sealer and Speedaneez white friction polish (from a 40 yr-old bottle!)

This wood is so variable in density that I had a real fun job getting it smooth.

Since getting the bargain box of Record bits at the club last night, I now have a smaller recessed chuck mount, so put it to use on this one.
Only a couple more pieces of this amazing wood left now...

Suddenly everybody wants to turn things with bits missing.

Both look well turned and finished. Chunky but that may well be necesseray with the wood you are using. The logs look as though they had a bit of rot in the middle.

Keep 'em coming.

Pete
