Can anyone recommend some decent STS bits for getting through rebar in a concrete wall?

I am guessing they would be used with hammer mode turned off?

Thanks
Dave

Nah, just hammer away as normal. I use the Bosch SDS+ bits, they last for ages. The Makita ones aren't bad but I've found the DeWalt ones soft as anything and burn out in minutes.

Hilti are the best and not that expensive. I just bought a load direct from hilti off their website.

I use the irwin bits, normally the 210mm long versions as i get them from my local tool stockist :)

Heh. Lots of replies at least.
They only had Makita nemesis or Irwin, so I got the Makita (my post was aimed at longer term purchases)

These were advertised as overcoming the challenges of rebar in concrete.

I got the hr2611ft which seemed more like a drill than the 2811I wanted but the latter was 500 euros compared to 300 euros in UK.

First hole was like butter, (I'd spent six hours and five bits on nine holes yesterday)

Second one hit rebar and the bit seems a bit knackered already.

However I am getting better at recognising it, next time I slowed right down and took the hammer off. Just a few minutes saw me through. I shall need a few bits in hand just in case, however it's miles faster.

From your replies I see that most sds bits are ok.

Thanks!
