Screw Online Retailers

I am sure i have seen this asked before, however can't find it.. any ideas on where online to purchase all manner and types of screws at a rate somewhat different from the B&Q mark?

I googled and found a few really awful sites...

Muliti-fix is realy good they do every kind of fixing you could want

They also sell some nice ironmongery coupple of weeks ago I fitted some unusable butt hinges from there

Have you got a Howdens joinery near you ? You won't beat their prices. You will need an account either cash or credit they should be able to set you up a cash account there and then credit type takes awhile.

All their screws are reisser , very good quality

I have also been thinking of them but did you really mean 'Unusable' hinges or unusual ?

Could very well be, i just heard there were some specialists who offered more range, at far lower prices. I guess I will have to compare them.

I usually order online for delivery to my London office, when i make trips over. However that makes it trick to visit places, specially now without car.

I was not certain of the quality. A lot of stuff gotten there seems to be a bit poor. prices definitely good.

Ebay i get all my stuff on their just got some d rings and screws came together and at a fraction of price of B and Q lots of different sellers shops some not cheap some very cheap so its a matter of shopping around on their as a lot of popular retailers have ebay shops aswell.

Screwfix own brand screws are fine - I usually use the turbo gold. If you want a well known brand they also sell spax fischer and timco.

Screwfix are ok and I've never had an issue with any of their gold or silver range. I recently ordered at 5PM from the internet, they were delivered 8AM next day and reasonably priced too.

But what if you want traditional woodscrews. The vast majority of screws from Screwfix and the like are modern construction types, almost all countersunk. I was surprised just how hard it is to find a traditional, slotted, round head, brass woodscrew. I got some recently from screwsline, mentioned above - but they are in the process retiring and just selling off their current stock at the moment.

You also have to prove that you are a trade. I agree reisser screws are the way forward for general fixings. Howdens also do a price match if you find cheaper elsewhere. Iron Mongery Direct also do a trade pack by reisser which is good for money.

I bought one of the trade cases full of screws which I have found fantastic because you have most common screw sizes at your finger tip for about £50.00

I must admit I like the spax type with the star shaped driver,(called t type for some reason), as there is pretty much zero cam out.

Spax for me, too, although I have to admit not trying all the others. But they are superb.
