I'm just of for a week to South Devon, not far from Honiton, and I was wondering if any turner in the area could suggest local suppliers especially for bits of Oak (pippy if possible) and Sycamore/Maple?

Thanks in advance

If you're heading down the M5, stop off at Yandles (near Taunton)? It's about 15 mins from the motorway and has a fantastic stock of wood.

Thanks for the reminder Chris, but as I am a closet Yorkshireman, I'm looking for deals!!! After all, it's the middlemen who make the money!!

There's a lad on Ebay who is based down in Devon. Had some nice pieces from him. His Ebay name id is 28dai28.
Contact him through ebay as he seems to do the timber as a side line to his tree surgeon work.

Direct link to Kirso's suggestion. https://www.topratedseller.com/ebay/28dai28
Only post because the Wise One's sister lives there so I took a look.

If you fancy a posh lunch, bit pricey but worth it pop into The Holt on the High St. The night time bookings used to be fairly chokker. You can sneak in there in the daytime its pretty casual.
I had razor clams and my jaw nearly hit the floor. (That's a 6 year old review though.)
I'm pretty far from a foodie but it was magnificent.
I reckon I've had 6 or 7 meals in my life that have changed the way I think about food. The Holt was one of them. Hence mentioning it on a woodworking site. You are at liberty to ignore it of course.. :D Just thought I'd add it here in case. You never know.
Cheers
Chris
