Sanding question

I've been watching a video by Mike Waldt about making a small oak box

and I found the video well made and interesting, and it looks an attractive little box.

I've been using sanding discs on a pad driven by an electric drill for a long time and hadn't seen the sanding device he is using in the video before.

What is it ? It looks much less cumbersome than a heavy drill and would be a good thing to get. Is it widely used and is it good ?

It looks like a Simon Hope sander. I have one and use it all the time mine came with a 3", 2" and a smaller one which I can't remember the size of. The pads I have also used in my cordless drill

Has that one got ball bearings or is it a bronze bush. If so then the Simon hope one will be the better choice as it has sealed bearings

I made one out of wood, all in all cost about £15.00. There are plans on the net for it, not as shiny obviously but it does the job
