Been surfing the web looking for ideas how to create mouldings using basic router cutters, hand held and table mounted.(Not purchasing a ready made cutter design)

Surfed into this one, it is slow to open and needs a bit of patience. quite good.

But looking for others that I would describe as idiot sheet instructions. These moulding operations can be quite complicated especially if you want to put to a different face than illustrated.

Can anyone help please?

Something else you might want to consider if you want to make custom mouldings is a router mount that allows you to alter the angle of attack in both the Y and Z planes as well as height if the fence can be repositioned 90deg from "normal", plans available here -

although designed for NON plunge routers I'm sure the tilting idea can be altered to suit plungers without too much fuss - something like a 4 post cage design version of below with a double base on a hinge and the depth adjuster the same, and for angle a similar slotted design, or if you can't do curved slots, a block with a bolt hinge to the table with a straight slotted swing arm to the cage.

I like the idea of a tilting router- if nothing else, you need only a straight cutter to do any chamfer angle. I am surprised that they are not commercially available, when you can get the same sort of thing on spindle moulders.

i doubt that i would ever get around to building this one though. there is a whole load of stuff on the plan that i wouldnt look forward to doing- gears for a start

The only thing I can suggest Devon is good ol' Norm. Norm quite frequently makes his own mouldings when he's wrapping a joint in various pieces of furniture. He uses a combination of table saw and router table and does make many different designs. Trouble is of course they're not assembled or indexed in one place ie they're spread amongst the huge quantity of shows he made and therefore difficult to access. There are many NYW on youtube but you would need to watch rather a lot to find the hidden gems I'm referring to.

So....not much help really :)
