I have a dewalt 613 but its very stiff when trying to plunge. I have tried cleaning the rods but it hasnt made much difference. Any tips?

Try polishing the carrier rods with some silicone lubricant. If that fails, you could rub them with some wet and dry, and give them a polish.

Alternatively, a spray graphite lubricant might do the trick - some gun shops sell it.

I have a makita that was like that removing the rods and air jetting the saw dust etc from the housing fixed it

That's why I thought of graphite - never tried it on tools but it's good for rifles in dusty conditions as it doesn't give fine particles anything to stick to. I'm down to my last can now, I got it from a gun shop in Arizona. I recently asked a Royal Marine if they've got any spare as I assumed they'd be issued with it in Iraq and Afghanistan. His response was a hollow laugh.

You should be able to get powdered graphite from a locksmith.
