Sorry if this is a silly question. Is a door right or left handed when viewing it from the back ( hinges to the left ).It opens inwardly to the left and if you come in from the outside to the right. Confused ? I am ! Geoff

Open the door and put your butt up to the butt hinges. If the door is at your left, it is a left hand door
from http://www.woodweb.com/knowledge_base/D ... doors.html
I was slightly confused when I asked the question..after reading the woodweb discussion I have upgraded that to to totaly confused.
There are two completley different points of view here. Maybe it's an east -west thing ! I think I'll go for the knob on the opposite side option.Geoff

I have been a joiner for over 30 years and have always done the handing of a door by looking at the butt side.

Sorry but I am still not sure for ordering locks etc. so to summarise, if I stand inside facing the front door with the hinges on the left and swing it open inwards towards me is that a right hand door ? Geoff
