I cracked the screen of my HTC Wildfire S and would like to fix it but I'm not entirely sure what I need to order. When the phone is turned on the picture is fine but the touch screen is completely unresponsive, so I suspect I will need to get something else apart from the screen.

There are step-by-step videos on Youtube on how to replace the screen so I will have no problems there.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be very helpful.

Cheers,
Mark

You will need the digitizer. It depends on model but Sometimes these are fixed to the lcd and other times the phones case. If the case you may also need the lens as there part of the same thing. Searching for your model will show what's needed or ask the sellers.

I have never done the wildfire before but another HTC I did the digitizer was part of the case lens.

You can get kits from eBay that supply all the tools you need and I bet there is a you tube vid showing you which parts you need.

It might be worth getting someone else to do it, as at least you then get some sort of warranty.

My eldest daughter broke her HTC Desire, too in a similar way - cracked screen meant no touch sensitivity. It took the repairer two attempts, so make sure you don't damage any flexis involved, also keep everything scrupulously clean - wear latex gloves and clean all cracks and contours in the case with a cotton bud and meths, before you open it.

Crud stuck on the screen under the glass is infuriating, but it also causes early failure. In daughter's case, the repair failed out of the (brief) warranty period, and she had to pay for a second attempt. The phone ultimately cost more than buying a replacement, and she's now gone to an iPhone IV.

But at least it's not one of these:

My wife is joined at the hip to hers. I hate the bloomin' thing, not least because I've had to replace the hinge flexi on two of them (one twice). It takes me about two or three hours, even though I've done it before. It's a truly horrible job. The video driver has died on one mainboard too. The screen and hinge work fine on the other 'phone, as does the keypad on the damaged one, but that one simply refuses to drive the display. I'm keeping it for spares, but I'd happily bin both of them. At least in yours there's no hinge involved.

E,

Thanks Hudson, that's exactly what I need. I'll find out whether the digitiser is attached to the LCD or not now.

Eric - a local phone repairer want £50 to supply and fit so I would rather do it myself. As long as I take my time and follow the YouTube video step-by-step then I shouldn't have any problems.

Cheers,
Mark
