..repair to mantelpiece

[lastminute]

..need to stick a piece of broken mantlepiece back (edge, matchbox size)
...not sure what its made of..limestone, plaster?, marble...the broken bit fits back perfectly so would some sort of epoxy, pva? do the job?

Best to try and find out what it is made of first but epoxy would almost certainly work. I doubt PVA would be suitable.

So far I have found that the polymer based adhesive/sealants like stixall will fix anything to anything!

If the material is porous you need to be careful, the solvents in the glue can wick into it and make the join line appear much bigger.

I used neat PVA to stick a broken brick in a wall corner - seems to have worked.
You need a means of holding the parts together with pressure long enough for the PVA to go off - this was the difficult bit.
