Hello,

I am furniture maker and just about to set up in a workshop and to do so I need public and product liability insurance. Does anybody know of any good deals?

Thanks in advance

Pub liability at least ought to be packaged in with yr contents insurance. I don't know that it's a legal requirement and the risk of it being invoked by a claimant is small. The same applies to product liability. Are you insuring your contents anyway?

A pertinent quote that I once came across said "Insurance is no substitute for a charmed life".

The thing to do is phone round a few insurance companies for quotes, or try an agent or broker. You will likely be classed as a sawmill (!) and the premium will be a significant outgoing.

I don't know about furniture making but I know that the Association of Woodturners of GB used to offer cheap insurance through a specialist craft brokers but now suggest contacting them direct.

Members Insurance

As the insurance requirements of all individuals tend to be different we no longer have in place a specific scheme tailored to the requirements of those members. We recommend that they contact our broker:

Ian W Wallace Ltd
PO Box 5063,
Verwood, Dorset BH31 6WB
Telephone: 0800 919359
e-mail: [email protected]

It may be worth giving them a ring.

I use both Trade Direct & A Plan for differing business insurances & have found them both helpful & competitive.
