Will the slice of green ( wet ) maple split, as you can see it is a complete section of the tree cut across the grain

With a bit of luck I hope the spalting may have taken the tention out of the wood and prevent the splitting :? only time will tell.

Number 2 & 3 are cut and green turned in the normal way so they should be OK

Fingers crossed here, I would suggest that the slice at least be wrapped on the outside with a few layers of paper to slow the outside drying down compared with the inner surface.

Worst case I think will be the bottom centre, a large Cherry I did developed a split in the base (core area) but this closed up again on further drying.

Lovely figuring in all three.

just to amuse... seems it's a global problem:

Did several people m’ask " how to prevent wood from splitting during drying ? "

The answer can easily hold in a book, but here just some small tricks of drying :

To remove Cœur, 95 % of the slits start with Cœur. This risk is the same one if you leave Cœur or Nœud in your turning.
Cut the pieces of the longest possible wood, according to the weight and the size. Thus later, the split ends can be sawn to find the sound wood.
Control the drying of the end grained timber : cover it with covers or bags of plastic, (economic, very effective and which can be recycled) or apply hurdy-gurdy sticks, of painting or the industrial products used by the sawmills, which are paraffin emulsions and L’water.
I will finish while saying to you : If you N’did not turn the green heart yet…Faites it, C ’is an incomparable pleasure which awaits you.

The Babelfish translator has a lot to answer for... I asked for French to English and it came out in Franglais

I truly have difficulty comprehending the dialectic colloquialisms that you chaps are using, if possible could you communicate in Queens English so that I can gain some semblance of an understanding of what you are endeavouring to say in your own indigenous and inimitable way

Cheers,
