I see that Photobucket have gone all mercenary and pictures on some of the older posts have gone Pete Tong.

What do folk recommend for hosting pictures - so when "attaching" to a post they don't go all Photobucket?

Thanks

Dibs

I switched to imgur.

Not user friendly unless you are very familiar with computer speak, but I did actually get helpful responses from the customer service dept (24-48 hours response times though).
but hey, the price is right (lol)

Are you sure Imgur allow it? This is in their t&c:

Stuff not to do

If someone else might own the copyright to it, don't upload it. Don't upload gore, "hate speech" (i.e. demeaning race, gender, age, religious or sexual orientation, etc.), or material that is threatening, harassing, defamatory, or that encourages violence or crime. Don't upload illegal content such as child porn or nonconsensual ("revenge") porn. Don't hotlink to adult content or to file-sharing, gambling, torrent, warez, or Imgur rip-off sites. Don't impersonate someone else. Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.

Get your own website. A starter package from any of the big hosting companies will be adequate and not cost much.
It really isn't technically bewildering any more.

Just to save us covering lots of the same ground, don't forget this thread, from back in June.
There are two issues intertwined - how to repair the damage photobucket did by blocking thousands of pictures in useful old discussions and how to host photos from now on.

If you’ve got a smartphone use the Tapatalk App and post directly from it.
It’s very easy.

My "other forum" is hosted on Forumotion, and is set up to use servimg.com, which I presume belongs to the same stable, though it is hard to get much detail about the ownership of the sites:

https://servimg.com/

Its T&C's prohibit indecent images, commercial use or copyright infringement, and (of course) take no responsibility for anything, but otherwise seem not restrictive. You retain copyright.

Of course, it is unlikely that any of these free hosting sites are guaranteed to remain available and free to use for ever, so they could at some point (a) disappear into the ether or (b) do a photobucket. So AndyT's suggestion is worth considering, it isn't all that expensive for a .uk domain name, a GB or two of storage and e-mail addresses to match.

Imgur helped me when I said i wanted to put my pictures into a web page because i couldnt figure out their site. Their customer service desk is fully aware of what I wanted to do , and told me how to do it.
i dont run a business, link any other sites, or any thing else of that stuff.

i have used it to link a few pics (my usage is very, very low) and have not had any problem so far.

Someone mentioned Google photos, so I clicked - like you do
Forgotton already that I have some piccys on there :)

No, but they warn against even hosting your avatar there.

It's there in the small print, so they could delete your photos at any time if they choose to.

Just worth being aware of.

AndyT - the link to that thread, much appreciated.

Thankfully I held copies of evertything I uploaded to PB, so nothing lost, just a case of knowing what's godd, bad and ugly.

I have servers on the old tinternet, so a choice between hosting them myself or maybe using GoogleDrive.

Thanks

Dibs

I did register with an email address, but you don't log in with it.
