Does anyone know of a source for these type of paints? My business partner is a top notch carver and stick maker and he's in the process of finishing a pheasant's head stick. The last source of these paints that he had is gone now and we're looking for a replacement - overseas if it has to be, but we need them from somewhere!

Thanks for the link Lee - but the Tamiya line aren't the deep Iridescent / Pearlescent he needs. They're for the shimmering Violets, Greens and Reds of the head and neck feathers. I think I've tracked down a couple of suppliers in the States (as always!) but still not having much joy with U.K. based ones. Oh well .......

I'd consider trying some of the car spray specialists as that sort of finish is very much in vogue for custom paint jobs. One of the ways the finish is achieved is to lay a tinted metallic base down and then overcoat with one or more layers of tinted transparent lacquer with a percentage of finely ground coloured metallics in it. If it's any help there's a car spray place I know in Ashton-under-Lyne who sell the stuff, but I'd have thought that somewhere like Newcastle would be nearer to you

Pop into your local art shop, Windsor & Newton and Daler Rowney both do pearlescents in their artist's acrylics, these are thick paints like toothpaste.

Rowneys also do a range of pearlescent inks that can be sprayed and pearlescent mediums that can be added to other acrylics.

For a less expensive option look out for "Crafters Acrylics" which come in 59ml bottles costing about £2. from your art, craft, or hobby shop.
