The fit up ranged from zero to over 7mm over 35mm

That is one thing that can be said for the days of Leyland, Vauxhall and Ford vehicles, the days when they turned to rust as you watched but they created a generation of good gas welders who learnt the art of turning rust back into metal and bridging some wide gaps as many panels never really fitted, I learnt a trick of feeding two rods into the weld pool using a 7 nozzle as low as you could get a stable flame to fill wide gaps and like many moved onto MIG and then TIG.

We used to fill gaps using 12s with the flux knocked off and then either arc or mig them in! Worked well!
