I have been routing around my old tools and came across a tenon saw I inherited when my father died. I cannot read the name without cleaning it up a bit but it has a distinctive elephant mark on the back.
Anyone recognise the mark ?

Yep, Tyzack. Some of them had 'Nonpareil' stamped on the back or etched on the blade, too. They were still making them in the 1980s - I bought a little 8" dovetail saw and a 26" hand saw. Good performers, both. Not cheap, either - the dovetail was £35 even then. Sadly, both saws had the later type of machine-finished wooden handle, lacking in the elegance and comfort of the older ones. The company was Tyzack, Sons and Turner by then.

Top quality saws, Tyzacks - 'specially the ones with the older, curlier handles.

I will have to try and get some pics today. I had a closer look with a magnifier. There is Tyzack and sons in an ark. Something under the ark I cannot read. Something to the left of the ark I cannot read. Looks like 'cast steel' to the right of the ark and then the elephant with something under it I cannot read. Handle is very curly and has split nuts.
Think I will give it a gentle clean up as it cuts beautifully.
