yes, i know the bin needs emptying.....

Thats very nice, I like it. It reminds me of a piece Lord Nibbo did in Walnut a while ago, with the large finger joints.

Bravo!

thanks for the kind comments.

i 'stole' the design from a set in New Heights but they were made from 20mm (mine 32mm) thick timber and they also had triangular fillets internally to strengthen it.

it weighs a ton though now.....

Very nicely done. :)

I like the way you're used equal-width lengths of timber to save the hassle of having to cut housings out.

That should also keep it very stable, as opposed to making it from one or two wider boards. What finish did you use?

Had to pass all the timber through the table saw to ensure they were exactly the same width otherwise the joints wouldn't have worked. I'm sure there would be a way of cutting them after but not really upto that yet. just glued them together with staggered ends.

Liberon Finsihing oil, several coats with the last few applied with v fine wet and dry (use the same finish on everything at the moment)

That's an interesting idea; I haven't tried applying an oil finish with W&D paper before... Looks like it works really well (I guess it also helps to keep the grain down), might have to try it sometime. :)
