Looking around the different suppliers for some Oak bowl blanks just wondering how does French Oak compare with our own native Oak

have you looked at Home of Wood.

French and Native are very similar- I would not be able to tell by looking at them which was which.

I believe French tends to be straighter grained as they manage their hardwood forestry better (longer term) - much of it is used for barrels - although I suppose turnery blanks would use up stuff that wasn't straight, if cut at source. As above, colour wise there's little difference.

I have bought mixed blanks at Home of Wood before looking for a batch a couple of sizes G S Specialist timber seem to be the best price theirs is French hence the question I will see what Home of Wood can do before I decide
