I've had a search and although there's a plethora of threads about moxon's made I can't seem to find anything on the recommended face shape apart from some references to people adding a slight camber so the jaw tops meet first, but I've been wondering whether it might also help to add a slight curve, like a spring joint, so the jaw outer edges have better holding capability.

Any recommendations?

I'm in the final stages of building one using the Independent Woodworking Cast Iron hardware, my face has a very slight crown (<1mm) in the centre despite my best efforts with various planes but since I can close the gap to the rear face with finger pressure I figure that it will even out the pressure on the workpiece.

Other suggestions are adding a bevel to the top of the jaw to allow you to angle your saw for half blind dovetails and a 'V' groove on both faces for securing dowels and the like.

When time permits I'll add some WiP to the Projects section.

Any thoughts on finish?

Douglas made mine and it's flat and square which is good. It is lined with leather (suede) on one jaw which grips well and is better than a curved jaw, I think.

+1 for Douglas' vice.
I cannot foresee any improvement over the one Douglas kindly made for me.
Like Andy says, it has square jaws, leather lined.
One feature that Douglas incorporates, which I find invaluable, is a vertical groove to hold (predominantly but not exclusively) round stock.

I saw the Mk 3 in a recent post I think - I made a note of the vertical groove, and I had already planned on lining with suede.

My main concern was does the outer part of the jaw on the outside of the screw still hold as well as the normal inner? Edit : strike that - I should assume Douglas has already checked that.

I have a Moxon made by Douglas too and can confirm its excellence :D
