memorial cross, I have to make one, has anyone made one in the past, wht size should it be made, and would stopped chamfuers look ok.

is it going to be in a cemetery, or somewhere else.
cemetery crosses have specific requirements.

in the old days many were made of oak, but maybe some of the other
outdoor woods might well be better these days.

Hi Jezmaster
I have made two in the last year, both in lieu of a headstone, and they had to be no taller than 30" and these were for two different cemeteries

Hi Roger

Bearing in mind that these are only temporary( about 9-12 months)

One was in Oak and finished with Sadolin, I returned to visit the grave a few weeks ago and it looked very good

The second was in Ash and, because it was a rush job, I used melamine Lacquer, after only three months(Winter) it looked a little tatty and had I had the courage would have pulled it out and redone it

thanks i was thinking of making it in oak, with the egdes stopped chamferd, coated in yatch varnish
