As I already have Makita drills, 18v batteries and charger I am considering getting this multi tool & accessories and wonder if anybody has any experience of it?

Its main use would be for cutting back skirtings, coving etc when installing fitted cupboards etc. Hopefully this would speed up and increase the accuracy of this work.

Is this suitable for this kind of work? Is there anything I need to be wary of?

Even though I have the Makita batteries and charger are there compelling reasons for buying a different brand?

I have just bought the Makita multi tool you talk about although mine is a 240v version. It is very handy for just the work you describe. I used mine to cut the base of the door architrave to allow me to slide the wood floor I laid to fit neatly beneath.

I have several Makita tools, all of which I have found to be very robust. They will last you a long time if you look after them

I've got one and it's great, slightly heavier than a Fein supercut but to be expected with a battery hanging off its backside. A battery will last for approx 15 mins cutting through 18mm ply with a slightly blunt blade but if you have a few batteries it shouldn't be a problem.
It takes bosch fit blades and I can fully recommend saxton blades that are cheap but to be honest better than Bosch ones and on a par with Fein blades

Cheers James

Can't comment on the cordless version, but I bought the 240v to replace my well-used Fein Multimaster and have absolutely no complaints - using it exactly as you plan.

+1 for the Saxton blades.

Thanks for the helpful replies guys.

Do you think the corded would be a better buy?

Where do you get Saxon blades & which ones do you recommend for my intended uses?

I got mine from ebay, 16 qiud for a mix of 8 different blades

As for corded v's cordless, it's entirely up to you. It's a toss up between long continuous use or easy accessability and not having cords/extension leads trailing everywhere.
